The first step is, in any case, to create the site on the test environment (like you did) and then copy it over on the production environment, and go live. After the production site is online, it seems that people use the testing environment in different ways. What I understand is the correct way is to push any new change to the testing environment, see if it works and then copy it in production. Since this is also the most boring way, many (including us at Italian Perl Workshop) push most changes directly in production, and use testing only to try out important modifications which can screw the site. Hope this helps. I am trying to get us to a launch asap, hopefully before Christmas, and am seeking help to get that done. The site is at http://test.mongueurs.net/yn2013/ Thank you for your Act software and thank you (if this is the right place to send thanks) for hosting this test site (and soon, hopefully, live site) at mongeurs.net. I've been unable so far to find via googling who I might contact about sites on mongeurs.net. So I'm hoping that either this list is an appropriate contact point or that at least someone on this list will know what I should do. In case this is a good place for questions: 1. I'd like as full server privs as you are willing to provide. I believe Aaron Phillips has already requested SFTP access for me. (I have provided a public SSH key, and have repeated it at the end of this email.) And/or: 2. I'd like as full Administration rights as you are willing to provide within the above instance of the Act software. I imagine Aaron could do this and I am trying to get this resolved through him but I thought I'd ask while I'm here in case I've missed him this side of Christmas. 3. A web designer has said that changing the menu is past his skill set. I imagine it's going to be easy for me once I can get in to the files and follow the docs, but in case I need help, am I right in thinking #act on irc.perl.org is the best place to turn to? How responsive is this list in the run up to Christmas and at weekends? 4. I couldn't find logs of this mailing list or the IRC channel. http://listes.mongueurs.net/archives/act/ is a 404. Any pointers? As Michele told you, we don't use the test site for production: we copy it into a repository (currently SVN, there ongoing work to use Git), and deploy it in the destination domain. Speaking of domain, there is currently no "always valid" YAPC::NA domain handled by our instance. Previous editions have used domains with the year within (yapc10.org, yapc2010.com, yapc2011.us) The logical domain for you is act.yapcna.org, however it is already used by YAPC::NA 2012, which runs on JT's own Act instance. If you want to use it, you'll need to speak with the admin of yapcna.org and JT to move last year conference on another domain, and then modify the DNS record this way: act.yapcna.org. IN CNAME conferences.mongueurs.net. If you can't get to use this domain, you'll need either to create a new subdomain (like act2.yapcna.org), or to register another one (yapcna.net, yapcna.com, yapc-na.org, yapc.na, yapc.us) from which a "act" subdomain can be used. If you don't want to register a new domain, we can host the conference on a generic domain like act.yapc.eu, conferences.mongueurs.net During the time, I'll configure everything I can on my part so things will be ready when the domain is configured. -- S?bastien Aperghis-Tramoni Close the world, txEn eht nepO. There you are: http://www.yapcna.org/ redirects to http://www.yapcna.org/yn2013/ All the previous redirections still work. If someone gives me a permalink for YAPC::NA 2012, I'll be glad to add the corresponding redirection as well. Aaron, I made you admin of the conference. Sending you by private mail your SVN credentials. -- S?bastien Aperghis-Tramoni Close the world, txEn eht nepO.
