For the test site, which you access through SSH, you directly put the files in ~/ye2014-test/{act,www}docs/ If you don't want to directly edit the files on the server (which I can understand), you can use any file transfer utility that works over SSH. -- S?bastien Aperghis-Tramoni Close the world, txEn eht nepO. To edit the site, can we go to http://test.mongueurs.net/czpw2014/ then click on the login text and in the login request field Martina would enter her ssh account number in the login field and her ssh key password in the password field? Or do we have to access your server via putty that we use and access our files that way? Kind regards, Nick. No. The login & password fields on the site are the same that you'd use on the other Perl conference sites. It's for connecting on your conference account, allowing people to propose talks, build their own schedule, edit the wiki, etc. Note that the test site is connected to a different database than the production server, so if you have an account on, say, http://yapc.eu/2013 , you have to make a new one on the test site. Then tell me the corresponding login name so I can give you the admin right on the conference. > Or do we have to access your server via putty that we use and access > our files that way? SSH (for which PuTTY is a good client) is the primary way to access your files on the server. I agree editing files with vi(m) over ssh is not the most comfortable way for everybody. That's why I suggested to use a more user-friendly client like Filezilla (https://filezilla-project.org/) to copy the files back and from the server on your local workstation, where you can work with your usual software. -- S?bastien Aperghis-Tramoni Close the world, txEn eht nepO. Not often we see people in marketing here, welcome! :) Perl events are traditionally grassroots (organized for developers and organized by developers), but I think it's reasonable to have someone like yourself be able to contribute too. Having said this, there's still a rather steep learning curve for getting a site up and running with Act, and we assume quite a lot of knowledge among the organizers. This is mostly because of the fact that devs usually organize these events. Do you have some local devs among your organizers, who can help you get up and running? Using them would probably a lot more effective for getting things done than requesting for introductory help here... Anyhoo, I hope we can muster some help anyway. > Please can you tell us how to do this? Sorry if I didn't explained everything in newbie mode, but usually conference organizers are developers or sysadmins, and therefore everybody knows how, for example, SSH works. So indeed, working with vi over SSH won't do it for you. As I wrote in a previous email, I think you should configure Filezilla for a friendlier way to copy the files between the server and your workstation. Depending on the software you work with, they might already have support for transferring files through SSH (even though I guess it's not very common in Windows software). -- S?bastien Aperghis-Tramoni Close the world, txEn eht nepO. If you already have access via Martina's key, you can add yourself to the ~/.ssh/authorized_keys file. You need to edit the configuration, templates and static files first, to make http://test.mongueurs.net/czpw2014/ look like you want it. You do that through the ssh login. Once you are happy with the layout, Sebastien can put it into production, and then you can start adding staff users, setting permissions, etc through the web interface. Underlying all this, I think it would be beneficial for you to get help from some local developer-type people, maybe some local Czech Perl-developers, since it seems you you are struggling with very basic stuff. Templating in Act uses a bunch of template parts, which are used with a kind of inheritance system: in your directory are the main ones you need to edit for your conference, the rest comes from from the base parts. You can overload these as well when necessary, but it shouldn't be needed in your case. You can read more about this in the Act documentation for the organizer: ? http://act.mongueurs.net/doc/Manual/Organizer.html especially the Layout and Template sections, which describe the roles of the important files and directories: ? http://act.mongueurs.net/doc/Manual/Organizer/Layout.html ? http://act.mongueurs.net/doc/Manual/Organizer/Templates.html The template engine is Template Toolkit 2, of which you should read the manual if you're not familiar with it: ? http://template-toolkit.org/docs/manual/index.html > And is there anything I should be aware of when editing the files, as > I will be using Dreamweaver? As far as I can tell, the TT2 files can be edited with Dreamweaver, like any other HTML templating syntax. To improve the experience, if your version of Dreamweaver don't already know how to handle TT2 syntax, you can modify some configuration files so it does: ? http://osdir.com/ml/lang.perl.modules.template-toolkit/2006-06/msg00018.html ? http://helpx.adobe.com/dreamweaver/kb/change-add-recognized-file-extensions.html -- S?bastien Aperghis-Tramoni Close the world, txEn eht nepO. It'll be cool. :) 1) We'd like to use Act for managing this event; Can we please get the "mojo2014" conference code/site set up? 2) Could you also set up Act to reply to act.mojoconf.org, redirecting to the appropriate url? 3) And finally create some logins with the following public SSH keys, so we can start setting up the site. :) Email: Stig Sandbeck Mathisen Login: ssm Key: ssh-rsa AAAAB3NzaC1yc2EAAAADAQABAAABAQDd8OVrDAvFOztC8MTzkfx+/NVgcSrMG1O8Vg30FFmQhUNL74caDVaRe3AUE76LN4khz9AbxT+Va2DJ0n1P4D8eQKWnKJHGDZuekJRoEIKxOWxHGrga6/mV8MgCP/XNcScKE1qVg9NVwpTUUoSxjh8LWM9pQF5XY/GqvnSQGY0Ryqmb6DJU7lIDzpMFPP6OTEK5ckAeEFBmobAn3KAnUGvYFhujW8OPgt7iyLh2zBQQIHM59AzI/XMmGCIjc077EAT/TchHyBcfBBMSfxVdU5ZrnTSlhFeHsotqNQW0iSI4D+pbYbONs/LKHAFsr51JfOt/bPEnNjGm1A1VWwgescIJ ssm at hastur Email: Nicolas Mendoza Login: nicomen Key: ssh-rsa AAAAB3NzaC1yc2EAAAABIwAAAQEArHZ0Gpbz+kaZFheDHYYPtOnIUqw1Uooy6PL1GHVObNuB5itryYSZHQShJQv28Vq5gW2yCJS1UD5GqVhglFCfT6aKrIfHaRqdsMyvAj/9IfIusUViZlCeRMF236ke6OF51lNY0YSGefHfCkOwD57vN6BHDVpWclZ2Qi9a3/KupDds8n0imSZG+f6mIKBi39dZWKuRfQ0OoWAYtm5JEhfg36DK4J1G/+PMbQhxHEsaVQxs4oq6rq1xejEl2bT+UcZhJq7q/i98eauYix7+6FvQr8wqsBfpLbEIZaRrobW3NkNJ2a6eRH4HDtJo3EeGtzp4qk/39DhMaBZg2e/QGWv3Nw== nicolasm at akiko Email: Salve J Nilsen Login: sjn Key: ssh-rsa AAAAB3NzaC1yc2EAAAABJQAAAQBiUL59FgFXNtbqRQQdZVjHWtD9fG13lNUF7d7LklOh5EL02aUbWYDSQwsLot/Gs3hrPyBW99gxZRwhUi476dPet+QUEKdqYdu5n7KyRJqoXDklkR891ZAjfYKSqVpOUlGGffcU0WI9qRW+iJ2O7YNNFAMUCzuv/OVYz9xZUt//etu+6G0eCeu/0oqR9Vt8ZmUvf1S/SA+pLlnYSd339LfvHAABb4pxa2kbjAD+2JFnBpljYSu15Otmz6kfsFA78DylCB2blwllBlwZReUKIzFXRl5rAq/Ukp2/5LNY8Ph/o8chrO0V2BqT/W0YklPnMqwVmxG7xJc/2CKQV/hOHGoz sjn at fnordwin.kaizen.do Email: Jan Henning Thorsen Login: jhthorsen (previously "batman", please rename if it's there) Key: ssh-rsa AAAAB3NzaC1yc2EAAAADAQABAAABAQCmMJ62toz2y0g3wgNh0UBhDptbUje/f6Omc0cqrrX41kLqiUPf/1LUNU4pZ8ENJ9QtPnnoidRDxmKtcCD//U2R1DqlA2C8N4Gr6jblnxZ7yvUDE9Bcozi0x+7r/k8RYoic1BNHuRnIr+PMyj6ICTKuInOy8NzNTxA0p+eBUt7kn4iA68CGOMZxPHrzrsMCnR7vUrcsPdUpOX0pcMU76RQIMhK1Kv0Fqoz4ta1kdqYPC540688mOTQsU1N41qS8nnBXb64FeY7brP2uB9BgCKdvVrNMP2zk5mz6eg79oPIskCoUZpXI+68DgLScPPd2lwpqHft1Hwie0yYH3wRehlDj jhthorsen at thinkbat Thanks! ^^ - Salve (Oslo.pm) -- #!/usr/bin/env perl sub AUTOLOAD{$AUTOLOAD=~/.*::(\d+)/;seek(DATA,$1,0);print# Salve Joshua Nilsen getc DATA}$"="'};&{'";@_=unpack("C*",unpack("u*",':50,$'.# '3!=0"59,6!`%%P\0!1)46%!F.Q`%01,`'."\n"));eval "&{'@_'}"; __END__ is near! :) From sebastien at aperghis.net Tue Jan 21 01:14:55 2014 From: sebastien at aperghis.net (=?iso-8859-1?Q?S=E9bastien_Aperghis-Tramoni?=) Date: Tue, 21 Jan 2014 01:14:55 +0100 Subject: CZPW move to live site In-Reply-To: <20140120100654.GB1901@petamem.com> References: <20140120100654.GB1901@petamem.com> Message-ID: Nicholas Butler wrote: > Hi Sebastien, Hello Nicholas, > I have built the CZPW pages on the test area (http://test.mongueurs.net/czpw2014/) and now I have been asked to request that the site to go Live. > Please can you make this live now? Done: http://act.yapc.eu/czpw2014/ The SVN repository is at: svn://svn.mongueurs.net/czpw2014 (credentials in a separate email) Tell me your Act username so I can make you admin of the conference. Now that the production site is enabled, you can modify the files by checking out the SVN repository. As far as I know, most good editors and IDEs on Windows integrate SVN support, so it should be easy (for a Windows tainted value of "easy" ;) Tiny SVN primer: you check out the files on your computer, so you can edit them, then you send the changes by committing them. The server updates the repository every 5 minutes. The interest of using a versioning system (here, SVN) is that it allows to easily fix a mistake by reverting the last changes. The test site is still enabled, so you can use it to test if something is ok before committing it on the production site. -- S?bastien Aperghis-Tramoni Close the world, txEn eht nepO.
